KEY & IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Dashboard Overview
The Dashboard provides a visual overview of all improvement actions identified within your setting and automatically categorises them against the Quality Indicators outlined in the Care Inspectorate Quality Improvement Framework (2025).
Automatic Updates
Once you populate the sheets titled Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3 and Heading 4, all charts and summary data will automatically update throughout the workbook.
Test Values
Each Quality Indicator currently contains sample test values to demonstrate how the roadmap works. These values can be deleted and replaced with your own improvement actions at any time.
RAG Status System
When entering data into the RAG Status column, simply type Green, Amber or Red. The cell will automatically update to the corresponding colour.
Red – Not Actioned
The improvement action has not yet been started.
Amber – In Progress
Green – Completed
The improvement action has been fully implemented and completed.
HOW TO GET THE BEST FROM YOUR QIF IMPROVEMENT ROADMAP
This roadmap has been designed to support continuous improvement, self-evaluation and quality assurance activities within your setting.
Step 1 – Identify Your Improvements
Begin by reviewing inspection feedback, self-evaluation findings, stakeholder feedback, audits and quality assurance activities. Record each improvement action within the relevant heading sheet.
Step 2 – Link Actions to Quality Indicators
Assign each improvement action to the most appropriate Quality Indicator. This allows the dashboard to automatically track progress across the Quality Improvement Framework.
Step 3 – Assign Responsibility
Allocate a lead person for each action. Clear ownership helps ensure accountability and supports timely completion.
Step 4 – Set Realistic Timescales
Include target dates for each improvement action. Regularly review progress against these timescales and update where necessary.
Step 5 – Keep Progress Updated
Use the RAG Status column to monitor progress:
• Red – Not Started
• Amber – In Progress
• Green – Completed
Regular updates will ensure your dashboard provides an accurate reflection of improvement activity.
Step 6 – Record Evidence
Use the evidence and comments sections to document what has been completed and the impact achieved. This will help demonstrate progress during inspections, self-evaluation activities and quality assurance reviews.
Step 7 – Review Regularly
Schedule regular quality improvement meetings to review actions, update progress and identify any barriers to completion.
Step 8 – Celebrate Success
Use the dashboard to recognise completed improvements, monitor trends and showcase the positive impact of improvement activity across your setting.
Top Tip
The roadmap is most effective when updated little and often. Regular updates provide a clear picture of progress and reduce the workload associated with inspection preparation and quality assurance reporting.
